Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship 2010
Professor Michael Keen, of the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC, was awarded the Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship 2010 by the International Institute for Pubic Finance (IIPF) and the CESifo Group Munich. Mr. Keen, who was a lead author of the IMF report on the taxation of the financial sector recently discussed by the leaders of the G-20, stayed for several weeks at CESifo in Munich.
As the high point of his stay Mr. Keen delivered the Richard Musgrave at the University of Munich on 7 July 2010. He addressed the current challenges linked with “Taxing and Regulating the Financial Sector”. The invitation to hold this lecture honoured Mr. Keen for his pioneering work especially in the area of taxation theory. With his selection as Richard Musgrave Visiting Professor he also became a Distinguished CESifo Fellow. This award is presented by the CESifo Group for outstanding work in economics.
After studying economics at Oxford University, Mr.Keen taught at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London and at the University of Essex. He has been with the International Monetary Fund since 1998, where he was for several years head of the Tax Policy Division and is now assistant director of the Fiscal Affairs Department. He has received widespread acclaim from area experts for his variuos books and numerous articles on both theoretical and practical questions of taxation.
